Masood Alam, an inspiring artist of the Pakistan Music Industry

Music is generally perceived as the most universal of all art forms. Music means self-expansion, oneness and reality. A true artist that has immense passion and love for music can justify to its beauty. Masood Alam a true icon, a passionate musician from the suburbs of Karachi, found his destiny in the form of music. In Pakistan there is sure no scarcity of talent but how many have the heart to take it to the end and bring a paradigm shift.

Masood Alam belongs to the aristocracy of composers. He never wrote a piece of music unless he had something to say and he never repeated himself; he never outstayed his welcome. No two of his composed pieces are alike, each one creates its own world. He lays his soul before us in music like the Second Symphony, yet it is noble as much as passionate. His melodic invention is to die for, his harmonic flavor subtle and instantly recognizable, his art is rich yet never cloying. He has the gift of making his music seem as if he is speaking just to you.

Masood Alam, is the only artist who served music industry of Pakistan for years and even worked for free at most days of his career. An inspirational artist that left the ease of life for the love of music. He got his big break when PTV invited him to compose music for one of their transmission “123 Check” for which he got lauded by many.

Masood Alam reluctantly worked day and night from studio to studio and composed 76 songs in a year which far fetches dreams for most artists in Pakistan. In recent days, Masood Alam made a music foundry that has done so much for other composers, musicians, and singers at building a music institution and shaping their career. This foundry had produced much harmonious music for Pakistan’s most loved brands and artists and now is still up and flourishing cause of Masood Alam.

Best Jashan-e-Aazadi Food Festival

I am a big adventurer when it comes to trying out food. But at the end of the day when it boils down to comfort food I want desi taste. I have not travelled in Pakistan and thus have not eaten food from other cities or provinces. All I know is what is available in Karachi. And food in Karachi has a distinctive Karachi wala taste. Like the biryani in Karachi is entirely different than that available in Lahore or any other parts of Pakistan. So, when I got this chance to go to the Jashan-e-Aazadi food festival at Avari where they boasted to represent food from different regions of Pakistan, I grabbed it both hands. Despite having an injured shoulder I went to the food festival and I’m so glad I didn’t miss the food experience that came with it.

Not just the food was great; the ambience was pure delight as well. The monuments from all over Pakistan were displayed as the backdrop and there was a horse dance, cows, goats and what not. The Jashan-e-Azadi food festival was organized at the pool side and the whole pool side was transformed into this one big depiction of everything that represents Pakistan.

Food from different regions was set up on different tables to distinguish one from other. From Balochistan to Azad Kashmir, there were dishes from each region. Food tasted not only good but I could tell the distinctive taste separately.

I had a great time at the food festival and ate so much. Most of the dishes were meat based. But the taste was very different than what we find in Karachi. Some had more black pepper in it, a couple of dishes were being made on koila and that special smell of coal permeated into the meat and tasted amazing. There was channa chat, dahi baray, gannay ka ras, lassi, kulfi, haleem, nihari, karahi, katakat and what not.

I started on with salads. Love, love, love salads at Avari. I am always in a conundrum about whether to have salads or have my fill with other food items. But I end up tasting all of their salads. I didn’t eat any rice dishes or desserts because I ate so much that I just couldn’t even look at desserts. But I had this itty-bitty baloo shahi anyway.

Absolutely loved the Jashan-e-Aazadi food festival.

Secret Recipes of Head Chef of Avari Towers

Trying out new recipes and creating new dishes is my passion. I love cooking. This combined with my love for food has led me to hundreds of websites, to so many cooking classes that I have lost count. But recently my interest had been waning a bit. With a very active toddler tow, I hardly get any time for anything outside my normal routine. This week I was invited to Avari Towers for a cooking class with their head chef and what an experience it had been.

IMG_4060

It reminded me of my long lost passion which had taken a back seat due to motherhood. I came back from Avari Towers with my interest in cooking renewed. Dusted off my recipes and decided not to let myself go, just coz I am a mother now.

The weather was beautiful when I went for the cooking class at Avari Towers Rooftop. And the view from the rooftop was breathtaking. Karachi for miles and miles and that too after 2 days rain. It was indeed a rare occurrence. It looked as if the city has washed away all its grit.

The chef shared 2 recipes; one for Tal Mal Grilled Prawns and the other for Grilled Australian Chops. Recipes were simple and I loved the taste of both dishes. The grilled chops tasted so so so good. And the prawns were too good.

The chefs made the recipes seem so simple. I loved the cooking class and will definitely try both dishes at my family BBQ soon.

McDonald’s Encourages to Keep Spreading Smiles Everywhere

Frustration, stress and anxiety are increasing in our society. People are dissatisfied with the kind of lives they are living. And yet most are unable to do much about it. In such a depressed society, there is need for restoring good humor, cheer and levity. Question is what we can do to dispel people of this grey cloud hovering over them. McDonald’s recent campaign has beautifully answered this question. #SpreadingSmiles is the McDonald’s message for people.

And what a great idea it is. If we just aim for spreading smiles in our own way, we might make a lot of people around us happy. Check this video and see how people are Spreading Smiles:

https://www.facebook.com/MediaMagick/videos/796452193863312/

It is not necessary to show big gestures, something as simple as a cup of tea after a tiring day can spread smiles. Especially during this holy month of Ramadan, when every good deed will be rewarded by 70 times more, we all should try to take up habits which help people around us. Small deeds, small gestures and a few kind words can make someone’s day better. People find happiness in mundane everyday things like a cup of tea, a glass of lassi in the scorching heat, or by giving balloons to kids.

Mcdonalds campaign Spreading Smiles has been very well received on social media. Here is how twitteratis reacted to this campaign:

Avari Impresses Me Again with the Italian Food Festival

Avari has become one of my favorite spots to dine with my family. Yes, they are pricey but you gotta look at all that they offer. I love their food and nothing can deter me from trying out the different food festivals they arrange. I have been to their Egyptian and French food festivals and I have had a great experience. So, I decided to try out the Italian Food Festival and I am glad I did.

Avari Towers Karachi has arranged Italian Food Festival at Asia Live to go on from 12th May to 21st May. Went there last night and it was a good experience. I haven’t had authentic Italian food before this except for eating pasta and pizza and we all know the kind of so called authentic flavours we find in Karachi. Most “authentic” called dishes served at various eateries and restaurants are adjusted according to the desi taste by adding spices to them. That wasn’t the case at the Italian Food Fest.

18618362_10213493255190046_723761941_o

All the food served was prepared keeping the authentic and original recipes in focus or so was evident from the taste. It was not spicy but neither was it blend. I love salads served at Avari and this time wasn’t any different. Tried different salads and loved all of them.

The main courses where amazing too. I loved the different sauces and the different meat used for the main course. The textures and smells were great.

The Tiramisu I found at the Italian Food Fest is the best I have ever had. It tasted just perfect. A bit bitter, a bit sweet. Yum. The rest of the desserts tasted pretty good too. Specially the peach cobbler. It was too good.

So far, all the food festivals I have been to at Avari have been really good. I love the idea of trying out new cuisines and Avari Towers has offered the best food festivals to satisfy my taste buds.

Avari Tower Karachi Celebrates Marvel Mums Lunch on Mothers Day

I have been home after a wonderful lunch for only a few hours and here I am forced to write this article on the food I ate. Yes, FORCED. Forced by that anxious feeling of sharing my wonderful experience with the world. Do you ever have that feeling where you want to share something with others right away?

So, I went to Avari Towers Karachi today for their Marvelous Mother’s Day Lunch-Munch. It was ah-may-zing. Accompanied by my mother in law, my son and husband we set out for Avari for probably the hottest day of the year. It wasn’t actually the hottest day, just felt like it. Before leaving, I told my husband that this lunch should be worth bearing the heat. And it was everything I had expected and so much more.

Let’s start from salads. Salads at Avari are always the best. I can eat my fill with salads only and every time I plan to eat more of their salads but then the main courses temp me with their aroma and looks.

The best part of the lunch-munch was that this time they had taken the best of the best dishes from all of Avari restaurants and served them. The selection variety was huge. There were Pakistani dishes, sushi bar, Mexican dishes, Thai dishes, and Japanese dishes. Food was plentiful and it all tasted good. I can vouch that all the dishes I ate tasted good.

18470984_10154322561920807_1663729356_n18515951_10154322584080807_2062575303_n

Pakistani cuisine included dishes like Chicken Karahi, Mutton Kunna, Chicken Bihari Boti, Grilled Red Snapper with Tomato Sauce, Paneer Malai Kofta Curry and Italian Chicken. There were a lot of other dishes too but I couldn’t try them. Of all the Pakistani dishes I tried, I loved the Paneer Malai Kofta Curry the best. The kofta balls were soft and moist. Curry and koftay both had distinct paneer flavor and I loved it.

With the sour cream and salsa sauces and loved the flavor of both sauces.

18471073_10154322585540807_691403704_n

I tried a bit of all the Japanese dishes that were served. Their Beef Teriyaki and Chicken Tappenyaki were really good.

A huge selection of desserts was also served but by the time it was turn for the sweets I had already eaten more than enough. Also my son was getting a bit sleepy, so we didn’t try anything, which I totally regret.

Dinning at Avari has always turned out to be a pleasure experience. This time my mother in law was with me too and she loved the food and we also partake in the lucky draw for some gifts offered for mother’s day. My Mum in law won Masarrat Misbah makeup as she won the lucky draw.

Don’t Miss The Egyptian Food Fest

I love trying out new cuisines and this week my husband treated me with Egyptian food. I had never tried Egyptian Food before and I liked it. This saturday my husband, son and I went to the Egyptian Food Fest hosted by Avari Towers Karachi. Avari Towers specializes in organizing food festivals based on different regions and different cuisines. Before this, they organised a French food festival, an Australian food festival, a Turkish food festival and several more. For each of these festivals, they specially import the food staples and produce from the particular countries of which food fests they organised. This is such a huge and distinctive feature of their food festivals. I mean while living in Pakistan I can eat French sausages or Australian steak or tiger prawns or the cheese from Switzerland, this is just amazing.

Another thing that sets them apart is that all the dishes they serve in these food festivals are authentic. There is no variation in the ingredients used or the recipe that is followed to make these dishes. This gives the whole festival an authentic and original feel. Also the decor reflects the origins. Like when we went for the Egyptian Food Fest this saturday, the center pieces used for the salad bar, entree table and dessert bar looked like pyramids, Alabastar Mosque and great obelisk from Karnak Temple. The colors of Egypt were reflected in the restaurant too which looked great.

Coming to food, it was plentiful. There were so much variety that I wasnt able to try every dish. I took nibbles of each dish but they were so fulfilling and rich, I couldnt hardly eat much. And I also had to save room for dessert. One thing I have always appreciated about Avari Towers buffets is that they offer best salads. This time was no different, from olives, fried cheese, Feta cheese, humus to citric prawn salad they all were scrumptious.

Salad Bar

Egyptians mostly eat lamb so most of the dishes were made of lamb. there was mutton too but not much of beef or chicken. The dishes were mildly spicy and tasted good. Some of the dishes I tried and really liked included Zalabia Balls, Dawood Basha, Lamb Moussaka, Lamb Stew, Dajaj Kabsa, Kusharay Pasta, Mutabbaq, Roasted Chicken & Potatoes, Mix Grilled Chicken and Beef and Full Medames.

Desserts included a few of the original Egyptian sweets like Baklava, Basbusa and Om Ali. There were other choices too like chocolate and and lemon mousse, chocolate souffle, walnut tarts, egg pudding and red velvet cake.

I liked the little taste of Egypt I got at Avari Towers Karachi Egyptian Food Fest. This food festival will go on till the 7th of May. Go on, take your family to this food festival and enjoy Egyptian Food.

Hashmanis offer a number of refractive surgeries but the one that stands out from the rest is the topo-guided LASIK. Hashmanis are the pioneer of topo-guided LASIK in Pakistan. They are the first ones and so far the only ones to offer this kind of surgery. It is estimated that around 30% of the people interested in LASIK surgery do not have the required eye fitness to perform the procedure. But the eye care institutions in Pakistan do not reject the unfit candidates and perform surgery like on any fit patient. If a patient goes through topo-guided tests, it can be easily determined whether he has the certain eye fitness required for effective post-surgical results. Hashmanis LASIK is considered the best in Pakistan because they offer topo-guided LASIK.

The surgery is bloodless and painless. And very few precautionary measures need to be taken after the surgery. In fact, patients can drive, swim and perform every normal activity after 24 hours of the surgery.
